Kharkiv has not fallen
In a conference room in Spokane last Friday (March 4, 2022) a business meeting was interrupted by a phone call…from Kharkiv, Ukraine. We looked at each other, our friend apologized, but we all said, “By all means take the call…”
That’s how this all started… What we were overhearing on that call was how life had changed in Kharkiv, Ukraine. We knew we had to do something! As it turned out, the man who received that call had many family and friends in Kharkiv…
Kharkiv is Ukraine’s second largest city and is located 42kms (26 miles) from the border with Russia. It had a population of 1.4 million people. Like many large metropolitan European cities, the people lived in tall apartment buildings and are dependent on the electric public transportation network to get around.
We heard how many of the people in Kharkiv are unable to leave. Their apartment buildings are being bombed and they are hiding where they can. We are getting daily reports from a local network of pastors finding and delivering food and relief supplies to the local residents. These people are now dependent on this network for their daily bread! There are no more grocery stores, no more trains running. People who used to argue about politics and religion are now working together to meet one another’s basic needs. Caravans of food and supplies are flowing through bordering countries to these people through this network of Christian pastors. As we heard on the phone, just a week ago, these people need help. They need food. They need us here in Spokane to do what we can to help the people of Ukraine.
Because of that phone call and because people in Spokane have responded to the need, we are now sending money to these families, these fellow human beings so they can survive the senseless aggression. We are people in Spokane helping, doing something, for the people in Ukraine. So they can hold on…
Kharkiv has not fallen. We continue to hear this as we communicate daily. Bombs are falling, but these brave people and getting food out every day. People are not starving because people in Spokane are committed to helping Ukraine.
So many people are touched by what they see on the news and they want to help. This is how we in Spokane can help! Give what you can. Get the word out and join us in helping the people of Ukraine. SpokaneHelpingUkraine.org

We just received news today (3/16/22) that Russia tried a big offensive to enter Kharkiv and were repelled by the people in the city and had to fall back even further than where they started. So keep praying that this aggression will end! In the meantime, we will keep sending food & relief to the people who must remain.
